Madhu Desai She had the courage to take up this challenging job. She has sown the seeds which have gcontainern into a huge tree which has born many fruits.
The prize winning entries of the first drawing competition were sent to ROTARY CLUB in ITALY.The drawings were auctioned and the fund was donated for a scholarship for 1 year to a girl student in ITALY for learning painting.
Foundation was laid for the Bal Mandir at Khotwadi Slum Area. Sewing classes were also held for the young girls of the same place. International IW President Weightman visited the Bal Mandir & was highly impressed.
Started ‘IMMUNAIZATION CENTRE’ at Nanavati Hospital for which donation received from Rtn. Chatrabhujbhai Thacker.
1968 – 69 Jayshree Daru Founder Member of Innerwheel Club of Bombay West. In her tenure, Balwadi was opened in Khotwadi, Santacruz West. Sewing & Embroidery classes for women were started and some of them were employed in Garment Factory.
Club was awarded a Trophy for Personal Contribution at a District Conference.
1969 – 70 Sandra Shroff She is one of the pioneer of our club. She was the instrument in running the free dispensary twice a week at our Medical Centre at Rotary club of Bombay West. Handicraft classes for helping the lower middle class women started in the previous year had flourished into a worth while unit. Napkins tray cloths & guest towels were sold at Poona Conference. Donation of drugs by pharmaceutical companies such as UNICHEM, FAIRDEAL, PARKE DAVIS & SARABHAI were given to the needy patient. Donated Rs 501 to the relief fund for Bharuch Earthquake.
1970 – 71 Sarayu Shah Many children projects were undertaken,especial focus on mentally retarded children. Aid for Gujarat relief fund was sent. “INTERNATIONAL DOLLS” exhibition was held more then 1000 visitors attended & was grand success.
She adopted a child suffering from T.B, whose parents were stricken with leprosy. She did many more community based projects.
1971 – 72 Nergis Sorabjee Projects undertaken at Leprosy Home which was appreciated by Dr.Kalthare of ACHWORTH. Healthy & Clean Baby contest held for the slum dwellers, 68 entries were enrolled. Many medical camp were held occasionally.

THE CLUB ORGANISED EKEBANA-JAPANESE DRY FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS SHOW, WHICH WAS INAUGURATED BY EDUCATION MINISTER MR CHAUDHARY.
Adopted (3 girls & 1 boy) children of Subedar Jaisingh who was killed in the war between India & Pakistan.
She donated rotating trophy to be given to a member who has rendered the best personal service through out the year.
1972 – 73 Snehlata Kalia Bal Mandir was shifted to Rotary Centre from Khotwadi slum. Free style drawing competition was held for the children. Meena Bazar was organized.
The net proceeds of ‘Meenabazar’plus donations received from members of the
club, enabled us to donate Rs. 2000/- towards building of ‘Cancer Hospital’ at New Delhi. Our club has thereby become an Institutional Member of Rotary Cancer Foundation.
1973 – 74 Leela Patel PICNIC IN THE MOONLIGHT– For celebrating our club’s birthday, We had a moonlight picnic along with our husbands at Juhu beach.
On IIW day donated motorized scooter to a lady who had lost the use of legs, was working in a Pathological Laboratory at sion Hospital. The ‘Free Spectacle Centre’ was held at Nanavati Hospital for which many underpreviledged people got benefitted.Polio vaccine & Triple vaccine injections given to needy children. Donation given to National Sports Committee for Paraplegic game.
1974 – 75 Nirmala Walvalkar In the honor of Dist. Chairman Dr.Nergis Sorabjee our member, our club hosted District Rally which was held at Khandala, was attended by a large members of our club.And also hosted District Conference.
Pioneer of ‘Sasta Sale’, which is continuing till date.
Amount collected by selling large quantities of pickles, made by herself, was used for various projects.
1975 – 76 Nalini Dalal

Set up Family Planning Project. “International Rose” show organized at Rty Ctr.
Mass TB check up camp was held at Bharatiya Arogyanidhi Hospital at Juhu.
Talking Library was conducted for the blind at Institute of Blinds.

1976 – 77 Shakuntala Satheye PROUD MOMENT–1st Association of Conference of India & Srilanka was held in Bombay. Major role played by our club under the Banner of our Dist.314 for which the District Chairman was our own member Sarayu Shah and Association President was Rakshaben Mehta. On opening ceremony prayer was sung by our club’s secretary Smita Sathe & welcome address by our President. All members have attended this conference with highest no. of memberships.
We hosted the Dist.Conference for the 3rd time since our club was formed. And for the 1st time at our club’s residence Rotary Centre Juhu.
For the 1st time conducted an Essay Writing Competition in 4 languages for the school children from Bandra to Borivali for which 66 students participated even Shruti School’s children had also taken part.
1977 – 78 Rama Parekh Bal Vatika & Bal Library was inaugurated by chief guest Mrinalini Desai in the presence of dignitary PDG DR.D.M.Desai who has graced the occasion. Diwali was celebrated with Immates of Blind Home. Projects undertaken for the children of Cerebral Palsey ‘Happy Home Centre’. Many projects undertaken for mentally & handicapped children.
She worked in the field of education. She inaugurated ‘Bal Library’ and ‘BalVatika’ at Rotary Centre for the children. She organized 3 days camp for the children to impart knowledge in art, craft and road-safety etc.
1978 – 79 Smita Sathe Organized blood donation drive. Kitchen Garden exhibition was organized.
1979 – 80 Niranjana Marphatia Multi script hand writing competition was held where 2000 children participated.
Happy Enviornment Exhibition was held.
1980 – 81 Usha Oza Projector was given to Shruti School for deaf. Aarti completion was held for mothers of Municipal School children.
A notebook perforating machine was donated to Vocational Training Unit for the mentally backword children run by Bhagini Seva Mandir at Vile parle, children of Bal Vatika were taken to Parle biscuit factory.
1981 – 82 Poonam Chabria Family Plannig Programme undertaken in a big way. Personalized services were rendered at Mother Teresa’s Home. Hearing Aids were donated to Hearing Impaired children.
1982 – 83 Asha Mathur FELLOWSHIP MEET—-Lunch meeting was arranged at Jamnabai School followed by declicious food, hosted by Rtn Chatrabhujbhai & our member Kesarben, 10 IW clubs were also invited.
Cartoon Film were screened for the handicapped children of Dilkhush, Shruti school,& Gazdar school for crippled.135 children attended. Bhajan Competition was organized for the 45+ age group, it was enjoyed by all.
A Garden for Blind : Under guidance of Dr.R.T.Vyas, a modest beginning on the 6000sq.ft. plot on the premises of M.N.Banaji Industrial Home for the Blind at Jogeshwari, develop garden by landscaping with planting beautiful plants, spent
Rs 8000/.
1983 – 84 Meera Chandavarkar Medical Camps with focus on detection of juvenile diabetes,T.B, were held for school children.
Tree Plantation outside Shruti School was undertaken. Co sponsored an International Camp for Senior Citizens at Lonavala.
1984 – 85 Madhu Gupta Toy Library was formed for the slum children. Inaugrated Public Telephone Booth for a blind person to give him livelihood. Medical check up for the girls of Municipal School of Andheri.
Conducted Bal Mela for Andheri Balwadi Children.
1985 – 86 Rajni Merchant Every month cleanliness contest were held at Municipal Schools. Library for Senior Citizen was started. Cooking Contest for the Blind Women of Industrial Blind Home. Exhibition & sale of plants as fund raising programme was held.
1986 – 87 Leela Patel Uniforms were given to Mentally Challenged children. Calipers & Crutches were given to orthopedically handicapped & hearing aids given to deaf children.
1987 – 88 Shakuntala Hansraj Project on Drug Abuse for student was organized. Dr. Paonskar gave a lecture & essay competition was held for the same, 165 trees planted at Kalina University Campus.
1988 – 89 Dr.Pallavi Shah Grand Installation was held at hotel Sea Princess where the chief guest was film actress Tanuja in the presence of Dist. Chairman Mira Mehta. 13 new members were also inducted. Mass medical projects / Healthcare awareness were executed by our own members Dr. Shashi Saigal, Dr.Bhavna Patel, Dr. Sneh Khanna, Dr. Shakuntala Kumar & our president. Senior Citizen club of Versova was inaugurated. Anand Mela, the fund raising cum fellowship programme was organized at Shruti school’s ground.
1989 – 90 Sunanda Chande Coconut Tree plantation at Senior citizen’s club, servants of building, Yari Road, Versova was done with the idea that these would yield some income.
“Be Clean’ for children of Juhu-Tara Municipal School. Every month of the Year 10-12 children who remained clean were given a prize.
1990 – 91 Ishwari Sachdev Tree plantation at Lotus Eye Hospital compound 7 Jalna Municipal Hospital. Senior Citizen library was inaugurated by Rtn. Chatrabhujbhai. Picnic was arranged for the mentally retarted children of Manilal Sunderji School were taken to National Park & Aarey colony. Homeopathy clinic was inaugurated at Senior Citizens garden at Versova.
Donation given towards construction of two rooms at Shruti School. Bonsai classes held through out the year by Urvashi Thacker.
1991 – 92 Urvashi Thacker Grand installation of her in the presence of Dist.chairman Vishakha Desai at Jamnabai Nursee school Auditorium. Salad decoration demonstration was held by Mrs Lobo. Major role played by our club for Triennial conference.
Many projects undertaken for weaker section/ mentally challenged/ children.
Demonstration on ‘First Aid’ was held by Dr.Shobha at Vidhyanidhi School.Held Fund Raising programme ‘Raas Garbaa’ at Jamanbai Nursee School, chief guest was film actress Neelam. It was grand success.
1992 – 93 Raj Chawla Visited the Vrid Ashram at Mahakali caves & donated basic things like tube lights, fans,walkers,irons etc.Tube well was installed at tribal localities near Borivali National Park for 2000 families living in this area. For this project we claimed Nalini Dahanukar cup.
1993 – 94 Shanti Ahuja Three Bore wells were installed at Karjat under the guidance of Late LILY RAO the tribals of this area greatly benefited from this project.
Inter District Rally was held at Jamnabai School, venue was offered by PP Urvashi, IIW President Anita Agarwal was felicitated, it was a grand success.
Charity programamme’Pushotam Jalota Nite’was held at Iskon Auditorium.

1994 – 95 Dr. Shobha Ahuja Construction of classroom for education of girl child at versova in koli area.
Massive ‘AIDS Awareness programme’ in colleges, higher secondary schools & organisations. Khadi Exhibition was organized for 2days. Pallavi Bhatt was instrumental for this project. Profit was used for the adivasis of Pindval village. Picnic was arranged for 150 Senior Citizens a Mudh Island.Donated E.K.G machine to pediatric ward of Cooper Hospital. Donated Group Hearing Aid system to Shruti School. Table -Tennis & Badminton competition held between other IW Clubs,among 50 participants our club won both the trophies. ‘SPECTRUM’ our news bulletin was introduced by CC Swati Shah which was released by Dist.Chair. Aruna Sheth.An album on ‘Indian Musical Instruments’ was made by Maya Shah & Poonam Dalal, which was appreciated by RTY DG. Dr.Bhide. 30 children from Remand Home were taken to Zoo. Seminar was organized ‘Woman’s equality & Reality’ at SVT College.
1995 – 96 Prabha Mathur Sterilization Camp at Vasai:
Over two consecutive days, more than 50 young mothers in the age group of 22-28 (having 2-3 kids each) underwent laparascopic surgery conducted by Dr.P.V. Mehta.
They were given steel utensils as incentives collected through exchange of old clothes procured from members. Since religion did not support family planning methods many ladies came without telling their families, surreptitiously.
1996 – 97 Swati Shah Set up the computer class for the deaf and mute children of Shruti School which was inaugurated by IIW PRESIDENT.
Donation given to built classroom at the Spastic School & also given TV/VCR.
Inter club fellowship organized.Programme was arranged ‘The car treasure hunt’.
Our club collected highest amount for Dist.Souvenir.
1997 – 98 Poonam Chabria Four wheelchairs were gifted to Spastic School,also shown them movie ‘Chachi 420’.
Computer training provided to Shruti School children.
Medical & dental check up camp held for Amboli Balwadi children.
1998 – 99 Pratima Kodkarni Spastic children were taken for a picnic to a circus & also taken them to visit Nehru Planetarium.
Sponsored drinking water reservoir at Dehrung village. Participated in Public Service Committies nutritional programme for the street children of shetler – Don Bosco.
1999 – 00 Annette Mascarenhas Environment project at S S Shawney School Khar-vermiculture, seperation of garbage, clinliness of community for 8th & 9th std students.onducted audio video presentation on blood groups, blood donation & AIDS awareness for Hansraj Morarji School. Rita Shroff has arranged ‘PBDHH’ for slow learners of SNDT. Child Reach, Spastic & Shruti School where film personalities Shahukh Khan & Juhi Chawla were present.
2000 – 01 Urvashi Thacker She was installed in the presence of chief guest Dist.Chairman .Dr.Pallavi Shah, occasion was graced by performance of Bharat Natyam style by Payal & Priyanka (Pallavi’s daughter).
Held demonstration on rock gardening for ladies. Celebrated Rakshabandhan & Independence day with street children of Aseema.Senior Citizen club ‘Saheli’ was inaugurated In the honor of our Dist.Chairman Dr.Pallavi Dist Rally was organized at Jamnbai School. Grand ‘Anand Mela’ was held for 200 children of 5 BMC School. Highlighted of the show was the magic show, was performed by 10 year old magician Chaitali, chief guest was actress Bhagyshree. Mass Pulse Polio Immmunization camp (all 4 centers) was allotted to our club by BMC where 26,000 children benefited. Inaugurated playground by Assn.Pres.Kamla Ramkrishnan at Shruti School in the presence of Dist. Dignitaries, for which Rtn Jairaj Thacker donated huge amt. and this was highlighted in TOI news paper.
Held talk on:(1) Ashthama, smoking, pollution, allergy by Dr.Sanjiv Mehta.
(2) Consumer guidance by Mrs Lalita Pai, & Elizabeth from Zimbabve.
2001 – 02 Veena Khanna Organized lecture on ‘Breast Feeding’ at many public areas by PDC Dr. Pallavi & Dr. Shobha. Yoga classes inaugurated at Rty. Ctr. In the memory of his wife late PP Raj Chawla, Rtn Nandlal had published Spiritually Oriented Prayer book for the children.
Many projects & entertainment programme were undertaken for blind women.
2002 – 03 Anupama Narsee Shown educational movie to 200 children of Child Reach School.
Donated Incubator to Pediatric ward at Cooper hospital. Held elocution, & art & craft competition at Tata compound, Juhu Tara school. TB & AIDS check up camp was held at Dharavi slums. Celebrated club’s birthday(charter night) at ‘The Club’ venue & dinner was sponsored by our member Nishi Khanna.
2003 – 04 Urmil Puri Inter District. I.S.O Meet at Rotary Centre with Sunita Deodhar as Dist. Chairman.
Installed Bore Well at a village near Karjat.
organized 51 cataract operations of Adivasi from Karjat. Projects on environment; Women’s Emancipation and various literacy projects in different schools.
Donated Borewell.
2004 – 05 Shanti Ahuja Mega Project- ‘Science & Environment’ Exhibition/ Competition among BMC Schools of K & H west Ward was held at Rty.Ctr. Chief guest was Dist.Chairman Jyoti Doshi, while science professors of Satheye College, Vile Parle (E) judged the projects. Which was executed by CC Meera Sheth & also published in Times of India – westside plus, it was one of those rare opportunities for the children to take part outside the school. Sports were organized for adivasi children at Shahpur. Hosted a rare fellowship programme for the Inter Club CC’s Competition.The theme had a unique idea “Sasural Mein Dulhe Ki Munh Dikhai Rasam” which was enjoyed by one & all.
2005 – 06 Tejal Parikh Association Vice President Dr.Pallavi Shah, District Vice Chairman Smita Batra,
Mr. Ravindra Jain, Rohini Gogate of Devdhar Institute & Mr.Purushottam Upadhyay, Gujarati renowned singer graced the occasion and released the Rag-Bodha book. The Musical Syllabus compiled in Braille which enabled the visually impaired to graduate in Music. The article has been published in a very famous magazine Chitralekha. 60 members were present. The guests present there donated almost Rs. 18,000/-, which was given to the blind orchestra who entertained us on that evening.
2006 – 07 Urvashi Thacker MEMORABLE YEAR:
This year was very special as Association Pres.Dr.Pallavi Shah & added to that Assn Treasure was a our glory PDC Dr.Shobha Ahuja. ” 11th TRIENNIAL CONFERENCE” was held at Yogi Sabhagrh in Mumbai. Our club had played major role, allotted us Venue & Stage management, Reception Outstation, Catering, Reception Venue. It was privilege for President who had given lead the Flag Parade.1600 IW members from all over India, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan & Australia etc were present. Grand Finale was succeed under the leadership of our President.
The IW objective of friendship was served by Triennial but service was not forgotten, the book ‘Raag Bodh’ translated in Braille & distributed all over India. Many ongoing projects held for children and also held many projects for needy society.
2007 – 08 Pallavi Bhatt Project undertaken was translation of bi-lingual, Hindi to English and English to Hindi Oxford Dictionaries into Braille. Project took 11 months to complete with the help of NAB and total donation of Rs.28 lacs was generated by us to print 500 copies to benefit 500,000 visually-challenged across India.
2008 – 09 Tejal Parikh Donated Audio Visual Projector at Barfiwalla Cosmopolitian School.
2009 – 10 Nirmala Deorah Donated Outdoor Playing equipments at premadhar creche for the children of domestic Servants
2010 – 11 Meenal Sambhare Distribution of Braille slates to visually impaired students in the villages of Maharashtra and Gujarat, and Kamala Mehta Blind School, Dadar.
2011 – 12 Prakruti Vasani Paraplegic Rehabilitation Center at Kirkee near Pune, for donation of battery operated wheelchairs and the creation and installation of a basketball roof
2012 – 13 Trusha Lathia Friends, From it’s start in 1966 Inner Wheel Club of Bombay West has promoted joy in serving society and in fostering friendships. Being part of Inner Wheel Club of Bombay West has given me an opportunity to contribute, make a positive difference and embrace humanity. This has helped in widening my horizons and has given a very special meaning to my life. I have built friendships with people from all walks of life. Inner Wheel is a wonderful women oriented organisation, enabling us to seek a sense of fulfilment and achieving it by finding harmony between our desires and actions.
It is a pleasure for me to present the Inner Wheel Club of Bombay West website and we are deeply indebted to our member Meera Sheth for designing the same for the club.
2013 – 14 KIRTIDA DAVE At the dawn of new Inner Wheel year we rise with commitment and dedication. This esteemed organization, IWCBW has united us through friendship and service. When any organization excels, it is the joint effort of all the members. I thank all the members for giving me this opportunity to serve as a President of this illustrious Inner Wheel Club of Bombay West.This journey in Inner Wheel has evolved me as a new person, giving more meaning and depth to every aspect of my life. Under the guidance of our IIWPP, Past Asso. Treasurer & PDCs we will reach excellence in our service, ‘To make our badge of Inner Wheel worthwhile.’And the theme We, for women shall strive together to bring sunshine into the lives of less fortunate of our society. Let our journey begin with MOTHER THERESA’S prayer;
‘May today there is peace within, May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be, May you use those gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has been given to you.
2014 – 15 Nilima Raval As we are approaching the golden jubilee year, let us all work with dedication, commitment, and Light The Path as we move towards service to society. I wish to thank all the members for their support and faith in me as I serve as the 48th President of this prestigious Inner Wheel Club. It is indeed my privelege to serve the society under the able guidance of IIWP, PDCs and Past Presidents; to contribute and make a positive difference to the underprivileged people in our society.
2015 – 16 Nita Kishan Agarwal I am lucky to wield the reins of this prestigious INNER WHEEL CLUB of BOMBAY WEST. This year’s IIW theme “UNIQUE & UNITED ” is about ONE and IN ONENESS ! Our individual uniqueness can be a source of our strenght and by combining it with others , we become a force to reckon with. Let us do it with SMILE!!! Over the years, I have seen generous contribution of our members in the projects and expect you all to continue this trend.
